Cosplay Contests Details
Please read through the contest guidelines below.
COSPLAY - Amateur Category
(Day 1: September 17, 2022)
GUIDELINES AND RULES:
- Contestants' costumes must resemble an existing character from anime, comic books, manga, TV series, movies, or video games. Original characters are not allowed to join the contest.
- The contestants are given a total of 1-2 minutes of stage time for their skit and the performance includes at least 30 (thirty) seconds of stage preparation before the start of the skit. Exceeding the time limit may result in a score deduction. (see Judging Penalties)
- Fanservice (ie. yaoi, yuri, etc) . Any kind of extreme kind of fan service (ie. kissing, PDA, etc.) that is deemed inappropriate for minors is strictly prohibited.
- Costumes that are too revealing (ie. expose private parts) are prohibited. Scantily clad and/or sexy costumes are allowed but not encouraged.
- All kinds of costume props must be handled with utmost care and must not be harmful to their fellow contestants, event staff, and event attendees. Any kind of sharp and/or bladed objects that will be used as costume props that could cut human flesh is strictly prohibited. Any kind of pyrotechnic equipment/s that will be used as costume props that could render damage to the venue and/or property is strictly prohibited.
- The organizers and its staff will not be held responsible for damage or injury resulting from mishandling and/or negligence of a cosplayer in his/her use of props/materials throughout the duration of the event.
- This contest is open to everyone, male or female with 3 years and below experience as a cosplayer, 13 years old and above. Contestants under eighteen (18) years of age as of the event date must have a letter of consent and waiver together with their information sheet. The Parent(s)/Guardian should accompany the contestant at all times.
- Misbehavior will not be tolerated by the organizers and may result in disqualification and or shall be kicked out of the venue.
- Contestants are allowed to have only 1 (one) shadow person that may serve as an assistant during the performance and must not interfere directly during the performance (e.g. act as a body double, enemy, etc.). Shadow/assistant must be covered in black all over including the face. (black shirt, pants, balaclava). Shadow/assistant should buy their event ticket pass separately.
- Send an mp3 copy of your skit music 2 weeks before the event date (failure to submit, the organizers will use a piece of random music during your skit performance)
- The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any contestant who ignores and/or violates any of the aforementioned guidelines and whatever they deem necessary.
- Names of contestants will be posted in public 2 weeks before the event for verification of years of experience.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:
A panel of judges will judge the contest with the following criteria in mind:
- Accuracy and Craftsmanship (45%):
Faithfulness to the reference material as well as the quality of details, difficulty, durability, and mobility of the costume. - Performance (45%):
Faithfulness to the character's signature mannerisms as well as iconic poses. This includes projection, facial expression, and the quality of the skit including creativity of the skit. This will be determined during the stage presentation. - Overall Impact (10%):
Appropriateness of the Cosplayer to the character they are portraying and his or her overall appeal to the audience. This will be determined during the stage presentation. - Character Familiarity (-):
The Judge deserve the right to ask an additional question(s) regarding the character and/or performance if it shall help with their judgment.
JUDGING PENALTIES:
In addition to the judging scores, penalties will be imposed on the following rule infractions:
- Time Limit: deductions will be under the judge’s discretion,10% will be the lowest.
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct: For actions that are demeaning to the other teams or that incite conflict in the competition that may spark any fight may result in disqualification.
- Incomplete Requirements: If any of the materials required are incomplete the organizers assigned have the authority to disqualify the contestant.
- Cosplay Showdown judges’ decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

All participants will receive certificates of participation.
REGISTRATION:
Registration FEE is 350 PHP/participant (Day-1 pass only).
No on-site registration.
Photos must be clear and unedited. Reference photos should be at least 800x800 pixels and the details of the costume must be visible.
The information must be truthful; falsifying any of the information will result in instant disqualification. All registration information will be kept private.
Original characters are not allowed to join.
The cut-off of registration and payments will be on August 27, 2022, and the forms will be given to the panel of judges for them to study the characters. This will ensure the integrity and quality of judgment of the judges.
